Current Status?

Bidding is now complete.  Our new Army Commanders are busy reading their orders, adjusting their OB's and selecting Corps Commanders to run their armies.  These are our winning team captains:

Col Lange    Confederate Army

Col Knemeyer    Union Army

The Game

Our next campaign will be set in the American Civil War, approximately 1862.  This will be a summer campaign with large armies in the style of the Eastern Theater.  Weather to be determined at random.  Instead of one fixed battle, our players will fight a mini campaign.  Each Army Commander will receive an equal number of points from which to build an Army as they see fit.  There are certain historical guidelines and limits.  i.e. the Union Army must be organized into smaller sized Divisions and Corps.  The Confederates are allowed to build more cavalry etc.   On opposite ends of the map will be two Capital Cities.  The opposing armies will start there.  The teams will then maneuver operationally across the map and engage in one or more battles until Victory is achieved.  Reinforcements will be few if any.

Victory

Primary:  Advance and capture the enemy Capital.

Secondary:  Seek out and engage the enemy Army in battle and defeat it.  What do we mean by defeat?  If most of your Corps are shattered / exhausted and your Army is driven from the battle while the enemy is mostly still intact, you are defeated.  If you can retreat/withdrawal from a battle with much of your army intact, and you are unwilling to concede victory, you may continue to maneuver in the hopes of achieving victory in a subsequent battle.  If a player is driven back to his Capital, he is defeated.  We will not conduct long term sieges in forts with entrenchments here.  Only field battles.

Supply

We won't get real detailed about logistics in this game.  We will abstractly keep an eye on things, so maneuver sensibly as if you had to trace some kind of line back to your Capital.  Your wagon trains are assumed to trail behind you along the roads.  If your forces get encircled or cut off, we will assess supply effects when appropriate.  The Umpire may give you warnings if your supplies start to run low or your wagon train gets sacked.  Conduct yourselves appropriately.

Map

We are working on an operational map now.  We will post it here for download once complete. It is not of a specific place from the Civil War.  It is fictitious terrain based on the period.

Armies

Note, the command structures of these armies is very different.  The Confederates should have approximately 5 Officers, while the Federals should have around 8.  The Umpire will limit and guide the player selection process to achieve somewhat balanced teams with bid money to keep the payout fair.

This means that if you want to be on the Confederate Army, you will need to bid higher since they have fewer Officers.  Lower or zero bid Officers will likely end up on the Union Army.

The Bidding Process

Only enlisted Officers may bid for command in the next game.  (To enlist, see the Officer's Pool for details.)  To place a bid, simply fill out the form to the right. Note:  Bidding for this campaign is now complete.  No further bids will be accepted.  Serious bids only please.  Don't bid if you are not really willing to put up the cash.  Trying to back out afterwards will be grounds for suspension from the league.

The bid is open and current results will be posted on this page.  Note:  You can bid more than once.  The bidding will continue until there are no new bids.  We will send notice to all Officers via email.  We hope to have this wrapped up by Jan 1st.    The two highest bidding players will be selected for Army Command.  All players must pay their final bid amount to the League via Paypal as they are activated for duty. This money will be added to the Prize Total.

There are two options for the Army Commanders:

    1 Side: Union or Confederate

    2 Capital:

The highest bidder picks either a side or a capital first.  The second highest picks their choice for the remaining option.

The Commanders will then build their armies from our point system.  Once these OB's are finalized and approved by the Umpire, the Commanders will begin to select Sub-Commanders from the Officer's Pool.  Commanders will alternate picking 1 Sub-Commander at a time.  The highest bidder picks first.

Sub-Commanders will be notified by email if offered a command.  They may decline.  If they accept, they are activated and must pay their bid amount.  Note:  You do not have to actually bid anything to be selected for a sub-command.  You can play for free.

We will post the selections and bidders here on this page as they develop.

Prize Money

All money from bids and Sponsors goes into the Prize Pool.  Any expenses are deducted from this.  i.e. Paypal fees, webhosting, etc.

How is money paid out?

The losing team wins nothing.  The winning team shares the prize pool in proportion to their contribution.  For example:  Let's say the total Prize Pool is $500.  You bid $10 and were selected for Corps Command.  Your team won.  Your team bid a total of $185.  Your prize is 10/185 of $500 or $27.03.  If you bid zero, you can still play.  It just means that if you win your prize would also be zero.

What is the risk?

The most you risk losing is whatever you bid.   Don't bid what you can't afford.  If you make a bid, don't plan on getting it back.  We are not here to gamble.  We are here to have fun and learn.  Don't get crazy.

What is the payout?

This can vary depending on Sponsor contribution, expenses and the size of your bid in proportion to your team.  At the lowest we should expect slightly less than 2:1.  As our sponsorship goes up, this should increase.  So, in general, you could expect that if you bid $10 you could lose $10, or win back $19.

Partial Game?

What happens if you only play for part of a game?  This can happen in several ways.  You can be killed in action.  You can get fired.  Your real life might get too busy and you may have to drop out unexpectedly.  No problem.

You will be replaced with an available Officer from the pool.  His bid will be added to the Prize Total.  Payouts are calculated when the game ends.  If your team lost, you win back nothing.  If your team wins, your prize is calculated as usual and then adjusted for your time actually in the game.

For example, lets say your bid was $10 and your winnings would have been $19.  The total game lasted 56 hours of game time.  (night turns count as 1 hour)  You were leading from the front and got shot and killed on the 48th hour.  Now you get 48/56 of your $9 gain, or $7.71 + your $10 original bid for a total of $17.71.  Your replacement only bid $5 to play so his total payout would have been $9.50.  He only played for 8/56 of the game, so his total prize would be $5.64

Era Results?

We had nearly a 3 way tie between Napoleonic, Civil War and WWII.  We have decided on a Civil War campaign for now.  Next we will try a WWII battle.  After that we will come back the little general.
